Officials Address Rumors: No Emergency at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station

PORT GIBSON, Miss. – Both Grand Gulf Nuclear Station and the Claiborne County Emergency Management System have addressed unfounded rumors regarding evacuation and ongoing issues at the plant.

In a press release released Sunday, November 17, Claiborne County Emergency Management stated that:

“Claiborne County Emergency Management is in continuous communication with the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station to monitor the plant’s daily operations as well as any potential emergency situations. Following recent rumors regarding evacuation and ongoing issues at the plant, Claiborne County Emergency Management would like to reassure the public that there is currently no emergency situation at Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Station.

The Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant is operating in a safe and stable condition. In the unlikely event that an issue, alert, or emergency were to arise, the plant would immediately notify Claiborne County Emergency Management and the appropriate public safety agencies.

In a statement from Ms. Tosha Hester, Communication Specialist at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, she emphasized the plant’s status and ongoing work:

“Grand Gulf Nuclear Station remains in a safe, stable condition while workers address a maintenance issue on the non-nuclear related front. Our team of highly trained nuclear professionals are doing an excellent job working on the plant and are dedicated to safe, reliable operation,” said Ms. Hester.

Claiborne County Emergency Management is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. The agency continues to closely monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Should any emergency situation, arise, the public will be promptly informed through official channels.
