One dead in structure fire on Marian Lane

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps has confirmed that one person has died in a structure fire in the 300 block of Marian Lane this evening.

“At 6:09 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department swiftly responded to a structure fire at [338] Marian Lane,”. said Stamps in an initial report on the structure fire “Upon arrival, fire crews encountered visible smoke from all sides of the structure, with flames erupting through the roof. Crews are actively and aggressively combating the fire.”

Stamps later confirmed with the Vicksburg Daily News that one person had died.

Update: 8:24 p.m.: At 8:11 p.m. Chief Stamps sent the following update: “At 6:09 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department confidently responded to a significant structure fire at 338 Marian Lane. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a dramatic scene: thick smoke billowing from all sides of the building, with vibrant flames leaping through the roof. Demonstrating their expertise, the firefighters quickly contained the blaze to the bathroom. Inside, they discovered an unresponsive male who had tragically succumbed to smoke inhalation.”
