VICKSBURG, Miss. – A mini poodle named Pearl touched the hearts of Vicksburg residents when the Vicksburg Animal Shelter posted about the pup being up for adoption.

Pearl is an 8-9 year-old mini poodle weighing only 5.2 pounds.

“Pearl loves to cuddle in your lap and would even make a good purse dog. She loves to dance and use her little muffled bark when she is excited,” said the shelter.

When Pearl arrived at the shelter, her fur was so matted she was virtually blind. After a little grooming and T.L.C., she is taking some time to adjust to being able to see again. “She will bump into things every now and then, but that doesn’t stop her from moving and playing around,” the shelter said.

Adopting breeds like miniature poodles presents challenges due to their special care needs in maintenance and grooming.

“Pearl deserves someone who is going to love and treat her like the queen she is. She will NOT just go to anyone. Poodles require frequent maintenance and grooming, so the adopter will need to have knowledge of the breed,” the shelter explained.

Within 24 hours of the post, the shelter provided an update that Pearl had found a home.

In other feel-good Vicksburg Animal shelter news, Tractor Supply Vicksburg is taking donations of pet food to donate to the shelter.

In a post made by Roshina Scott on Facebook she said the following: “Tractor Supply Vicksburg believes in supporting our local animal shelters. Here is 1 of the 2 donations of dog food we will be giving to VAS (Vicksburg Animal Shelter). We are asking for your help to fill a pallet for our next donation. All it takes is a bag of cat food or dog food. Just let the cashier know it’s a donation to the animal shelter and we will add it to the pallet. Our shelters are at max capacity and doing their best and need our community help. Help feed an animal and save a life. Thank you in advance.”
