Play2Wynn basketball camp entered its 21st year
The 21st annual Play2Wynn Basketball Camp was held last where over 30 youngsters were in attendance. The camp was hosted by Vicksburg native Donna Brown-Wynn, who came back home to teach the youth.
“I’m happy to be back home and see some new kids and new faces,” Wynn said. “They’ve been working on their craft all week and I’m blessed to see the smile on their faces.”
At camp, the young athletes practiced on ball-handling, shooting, and many more drills that Wynn and her assistant coaches oversaw.
Many of the kids testified about how much the camp helped and how they would definitely sign up again next year.
“I felt like I got better at some things like the double-crossing,” eighth grader Torreigh Lewis said. “I was able to advance my dribbling skills at camp and this is my third year coming so I learn more each time” Da’Mariya Cosby added.
Sicily Smith and Titus Williams also testified that Play2wynn Camp helped with their basketball skills.
“It was fun overall and the double-cross was the newest thing I’ve learned,” Smith said. “I’m getting better at dribbling and bank shots and basketball gives me a chance to make new friends,” Williams added.
Former camp members, including Bobby Taylor, Brycen Jones, Mariah Harrison, and Tierra Jones came back to help as well to give back.
“When they come back like this, it showcases that I’m doing the right thing but I also talk about life with them so they’ll know what to do on and off the court,” Wynn said.
Coach Wynn doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon as more camp dates will be announced. Wynn is a 1989 graduate of Vicksburg High School and went on to start at Mississippi State for four years. She also recently wrapped up her sixth year as the Franklin Christian Academy Head Basketball Coach.
