VICKSBURG, Miss. – PorchFest had its best year with record attendance and sales.

In a meeting held in a Historic Fostoria area home, the leadership of PorchFest recapped the weekend event and revealed record numbers. Several vendors sold out of product and most of the food vendors sold out of food by 4 p.m.

PorchFest is an annual event in the Historic Fostoria neighborhood with the Festival hosted in the 2300-2500 block of Drummond. An area that includes some of the most beautiful and historic homes in Vicksburg.

“I love this event. It is family friendly, animal friendly and such a fun, laid back time for the community. It is a true community get-together day,” said Drummond Street resident Launo Moore.

A trolley carted people from nearby parking areas to the festival area on Drummond Street. As always, there were no reported incidents at the family friendly event.

T-Shirts designed by Jill Bishop sold more than in any year before. Bishops’ Woodstock influenced shirts were done in tie-dye. Bishop also created most of the original graphic art for the signs and related events. The popular design sold almost triple versus any prior year. Shirts are still available on the PorchFest Facebook page. Also available are raffle tickets. Prizes include a catered dinner for six by local Chef William Furlong.

The profits from PorchFest are donated to area organizations and are used to improve the neighborhood.

Porchfest is free and open for anyone to attend. Performances take place on Historic Fostoria Neighborhood porches or yards in a celebration of our vibrant creative community.

Porchfest began in 2007 in Ithaca, New York, inspired by some outdoor ukulele playing and a conversation between neighbors. They came up with the idea that day and gathered 20 bands to make it happen in September of that year. PorchFest in Vicksburg began in 2018 when residents of the Historic Fostoria Neighborhood loved the idea and organized the event here. PorchFest events have popped up all over the county with each community putting their unique spin on it.
