Port Gibson’s Derby and Brown signed basketball scholarships

Port Gibson High School basketball players Kameron Brown and Markel Derby signed collegiate scholarships this week.
Brown, who averaged 23.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game, signed with Pearl River Community College. He chose PRCCC over schools like the University of Southern Mississippi, Jackson State University, Copiah Lincoln CC and many more.
Brown was also selected as a Dandy Dozen and participated in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game. This Saturday, he will play in the Josh Hubbard Showcase as he is ranked as one of the top players in the state of Mississippi.
Derby will be headed down the road to Alcorn State University as he signed his name on the dotted line. He was instrumental in the Blue Waves’ success by helping them secure big wins over teams like South Delta, Jefferson County, Crystal Springs and Murrah. He averaged double digits for PGHS.
Both Brown and Derby helped the Blue Waves secure a District Championship and advanced to the Big House under Head Coach Hulon Newsome.
