VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A new study conducted by the research team at personal injury law firm Andrew Pickett Law analyzed spring break traffic fatalities using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to rank the deadliest states for spring break travel from 2017 to 2023.

Key Findings:

Six of the top 10 deadliest states for spring break are in the South: Mississippi (1st), South Carolina (2nd), Alabama (4th), Florida (6th), Louisiana (7th), and Arkansas (10th).

Mississippi leads the nation as the deadliest state for spring break driving, with 9.86 fatalities per 100,000 residents.

The state’s fatality rate is significantly higher than the national leaders in total volume, showing a disproportionate risk for its population size.

The leading critical event for crashes in Mississippi is vehicles moving off the edge of the road on the right side, accounting for 50 recorded accidents.
