Teenager charged with the murder of a 15-year-old in Hattiesburg

MURDER ARREST: With the assistance of Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, Hattiesburg Police have arrested and formally charged an individual involved in Monday’s fatal shooting incident that resulted in the death of 15-year-old Jayna Lumzy.

A 17-year-old male, of Lamar County, has been formally charged with one (1) count of 1st Degree Murder. He has been charged as an adult and has been booked into the Forrest County Jail.

Additional arrests are pending as the investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, March 25, 2024, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Hattiesburg Police responded to the 1500 block of Country Club Road in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 15-year-old female, who appeared to be unresponsive, in the exterior stairwell of the complex. Officers rendered aid to the female victim until paramedics arrived, but unfortunately, she would later succumb to her injuries.
