Vehicle crashes into store on Clay Street
At about 10:15 p.m., a black Tahoe crashed into a business on Clay Street.
The black SUV caused significant damage to the corner and front of the building and the vehicle is heavily damaged.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene according to Vicksburg Police Watch Commander Bobby Jones. One person was injured and treated at the scene and was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The ambulance that left the scene did not have its lights and siren on when it drove away.
The initial report of the accident indicated a person was walking around inside the building. A person associated with the business clarified that the individual was sleeping in the building on behalf of the owner. He also noted the business has cameras that would have captured the event. Other police radio traffic indicated several people were walking around in the building but that claim has not yet been substantiated.
Police were observed searching Cleveland but it is unknown what they were seeking. A patrol unit was also observed racing north on Cleveland soon after the accident.
Vicksburg fire, Rescue, and FireMedic units were at the scene along with several police units including an investigator and Watch Commander Bobby Jones.
