SUMMIT, Miss. (VDN) — Former Warren Central football standout Chris Stamps is continuing to climb the coaching ranks and is now entering his first season on staff at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Stamps, a Vicksburg native, currently serves as an assistant coach working with the Bears’ linebackers. Before arriving at Southwest, he held coaching positions at East Central Community College, Mississippi Delta Community College, Mississippi State University and the University at Buffalo. He also spent time coaching in the professional ranks with the Orlando Guardians of the XFL.

Stamps has already made an impact in player development, having coached several athletes who reached the NFL, including Dee Williams of the New York Giants and Nathaniel “Bookie” Watson of the Cleveland Browns.

His football journey began at Warren Central High School under longtime head coach Josh Morgan. As a Viking, Stamps was a two-way standout, finishing his high school career with 13 interceptions, 902 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. Rated a three-star recruit by ESPN, he signed with Mississippi State University out of high school.

After redshirting his freshman year at MSU, Stamps transferred to Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he had a productive 2017 season. In 11 games, he recorded 34 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception. The Rangers finished the year with an 8-3 record.

Stamps completed his collegiate playing career at Middle Tennessee State University, where he logged 39 tackles and one interception before transitioning into coaching full-time.

Now back in Mississippi, Stamps is helping shape the next generation of players while continuing to build his career in football.
