Walmart is closed due to a power outage, fire department responds to smoke in the building

Walmart in Vicksburg announced it will be closed on Tuesday, March 26, due to power outages.

Yesterday afternoon, a power line broke behind the facility, causing the power to fail. Iowa Blvd is closed at Confederate; take an alternate route.

An employee stated they have to remove some inventory before they can open, “It just takes time,” said the person who wished to remain anonymous.

VDN will provide further updates once the store specifies the reopening time.

In a related event, numerous units with the Vicksburg Fire Department were dispatched to Walmart for a report of smoke. Engine 7, Engine 8, Rescue, Platform and Battalion One, Tim Love, all responded to the scene along with a fire medic unit.

Love said, “It was probably from when they powered the building back up. There was smoke that triggered their alarm.”

Additionally, at about 7:30 a.m., someone fell at the facility, and a fire medic unit was dispatched.
