VHS defeated Provine on the road 64-52; Missy Gators fell short
JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg High School boys’ basketball team picked up a road win Friday night, defeating Provine 64-52 as the Gators returned to action following the Christmas break.
Vicksburg built an early advantage and never trailed after the opening period. Marlyn Foy opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, while Jaquez Marshall and Jaquez Jones added baskets to help VHS take a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Gators extended the margin before halftime, outscoring Provine 22-10 in the second quarter to take a 39-23 lead at the break. Jones scored 12 points in the second quarter alone, and Jadarius Henderson connected on two field goals during the run.
Jones continued to control the game in the second half, scoring consistently in both the third and fourth quarters. The sophomore finished with a game-high 28 points. Henderson added 12 points, also scoring in double figures, while Marshall contributed 11 points. Foy finished with seven points, Jayden Stewart added four, and Jordan Clay scored two to round out the scoring for the Gators.
In girls’ action, the Vicksburg High School Missy Gators fell to Provine 47-41 in a closely contested matchup. Jordan Grace led VHS with nine points, and Zion Knox followed with eight points. Kenley Henderson scored six points, while Saudia Stewart contributed five points and four rebounds. Raylyn Parson and Aaliyah Mims scored four points apiece, Jada Erwin added three points, and Ny’Keria Watson finished with two points in the loss.
