Mack Foley named Head Softball Coach at Tensas Academy
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
After years of learning the game alongside his father, Mack Foley is stepping into a leadership role of his own.
Foley has been named the head softball coach at Tensas Academy, marking the first time he will lead a high school program after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at St. Aloysius.
“I’m happy to be there, and I have a good core of young players who are ready to learn and grow with time, but I’m excited to be here,” Foley said.
Foley interviewed for the position in January, and it took only a couple of days for Tensas Academy to officially offer him the job.
The opportunity comes after three successful seasons coaching alongside his father, Mike Foley, at St. Aloysius. The father-son duo helped guide the Lady Flashes while Mack worked with hitters, infielders, outfielders and catchers. During his time with the program, several St. Aloysius players went on to earn college softball scholarships.
Now, Foley is ready to build a program of his own.
His first test will also be one of the most meaningful. Tensas Academy will open the season at home on July 28 against St. Aloysius, where he’ll coach against his father for the first time.
“I love it,” Foley said. “I love it being against him, and it’s going to be tough and challenging.”
Foley’s passion for coaching began a decade ago when he volunteered with the Vicksburg Girls Softball Association. He later transitioned into travel softball and continues coaching with Riptide, helping develop young athletes throughout the area.
A 2018 Warren Central High School graduate, Foley was a two-sport athlete who played football and golf before finding his calling in the dugout.
Now, as he begins his first season as a head coach, Foley is eager to help a young Tensas Academy squad develop, compete and build a foundation for future success.
