Alcorn’s Edwards selected to the All-SWAC Preseason Team

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University Lady Braves softball has been tabbed to be fourth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) West with 66 points. Kristian Edwards was the lone Alcornite named to the All-SWAC Preseason Second Team.

ASU finished the season with an overall record of 19-30 and 11-13 in conference play. The team ended their season on a solid run in the 2023 SWAC Softball Tournament. The Lady Braves played their way out of the elimination bracket to a semi-final game against Grambling State University. Alcorn battled hard but was defeated by the Tigers, 5-6.

Edwards earned her place on the all-conference second team with a consistent performance for the 2023 season. She finished the season in third place in triples across the SWAC. Edwards had a .295 batting average, 28 runs, 41 hits, and 16 runs batted in. She also had 17 stolen bases. As a an outfielder, Edwards racked up 89 put outs for the season.

Alcorn State softball opens their season in the River City Classic in Jackson, Miss. The first game of the classic will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10 against Arlington Baptist University at 10 a.m.
