A Memorial service will be held for Alonzo Austin on March 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, 1625 Monroe St., Vicksburg, MS.

Alonzo “Pranker” Austin was born on November 10, 1943, in Vicksburg, MS, the son of Emanuel “Pump” Austin and Georgia Mae Benard, both of whom preceded him in death.

Pranker peacefully transitioned at the age of 80 in the comfort of his home. A place filled with fond memories and cherished moments that shaped his remarkable journey. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and mechanic work. He retired from the Warren County Highway Department as a Diesel Mechanic. He was preceded in death by his five beloved sisters, Bessie Mae Whitaker, Nancy Austin, Lilly Bell Wardley, Georgia Ann Hall, and Lenora Pendleton, and two brothers, Kalvin Benard and Redale Benard.

Although Pranker may have left this earthly realm, his spirit lives on through his devoted children and extended family. He is survived by: his three daughters, Janice (Ken) Rivera of Batavia, IL, Penny Austin, and Cedra Austin, both of Aurora, IL; one step-daughter: Regina Blackmore (Greg), of Vicksburg, MS; three sons, Alonzo Blackmore (Tonya) of Vicksburg, MS, Tony Austin, and Alan Austin, both of Aurora, IL; and one step-son, Demetrice Blackmore of Vicksburg, MS; eight brothers, Jessie (Shelia), George, Carl, Andrew, and Mose Benard all of Vicksburg, MS, Aaron (Brenda) Benard of Aurora, IL, Roosevelt Benard, and Joseph (Belita) Benard, both of Texas; three sisters, Leaverne Brent and Rebecca (Tommy) Tribble, both of Vicksburg, MS, and Eliza (Martin) Bentivengo of North Aurora, IL; two aunts, Katherine Austin and Bertha Benard, both of Vicksburg, MS and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and a special friend, Debra Johnson.

Alonzo was a cherished soul who touched the lives of many through his kind heart, gentle spirit, unwavering love for his family, and a compassion for cooking. His legacy of compassion and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we say our farewells to Pranker, we find solace in the memories we shared and the legacy he leaves behind. May his soul find eternal peace, and his spirit continue to watch over his beloved family.

In the tapestry of life, Alonzo’s thread will forever be interwoven with the hearts of those who loved him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memories will endure for generations to come.

Rest in peace, Dear Dad, knowing that your love will continue to guide and inspire those who hold you near and dear to their hearts.
