Amiyah Hall is Mississippi’s fastest female sprinter
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Amiyah Hall has elevated herself to the top of Mississippi’s track and field ranks, and the Vicksburg High School junior shows no signs of slowing down.
Now recognized as the state’s fastest female sprinter, Hall has separated herself from the competition with elite speed, relentless work ethic and a championship mindset. Her blazing 11.83 time in the 100-meter dash — recorded in early March at the Vicksburg High Invitational — stands as the fastest in Mississippi this season, cementing her status as a premier athlete on her home track.
“I feel amazing,” Hall said. “I’m glad I’m No. 1 because I worked hard for it and this is not the last time that people will say I’m No. 1.”
Hall’s rise to the top has been fueled by consistent dedication. The reigning state champion in the 200-meter dash, she finished runner-up in the 100 meters last season before taking full control of the event this year. She has claimed first place in every meet she has entered in both the 100 and 200, while also playing a key role on Vicksburg’s dominant 4×200-meter relay team.
Her success is no accident.
Hall credits much of her development to head coach Deatra Cable, who recognized her potential early and elevated her to the varsity level after seventh grade. The partnership has helped shape Hall into one of the state’s most formidable competitors.
“She’s been great and she knows how to push even though she’ll work to where you want to quit,” Hall said with a smile.
Beyond training and competition, Hall embraces a deeper purpose behind her talent.
“I’m not going to give up on this blessing or play with it,” she said.
Despite outside chatter questioning whether she can maintain her dominance or capture another state title, Hall remains unfazed and confident in her trajectory.
“Be prepared to hear my name again because I’m not staying at 11.83,” she said.
Already an All-State selection as a sophomore, Hall’s reputation continues to grow beyond the track. Over the summer, Vicksburg native and Super Bowl champion Malcolm Butler challenged her to a race — a moment that further showcased her elite speed.
Known for his quickness during his NFL career, Butler proved no match for Hall, who pulled away with ease.
“I wasn’t supposed to race him that day but he was talking noice the whole time,” she jokingly said.
As regionals begin on April 17th, Hall has no worries as she welcomes all who is ready to challenge her authority.
