Fourth annual Charles Scott Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on June 6

VICKSBURG, Miss.—The fourth annual Charles Scott Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on June 6, 2025, at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.
The American Legion Tyner Post 213 is hosting the event where members Dr. Hank Harper, Sergeant Major James Bowman, Chaplain Dorwin Shields, Commander Donna Williams, Sargent at Arms Marisa Gaona, and First Vice Commander Alonzo Stevens all sat down with VDN to inform the public about the event.
“This is the fourth time for this event and we’re getting everything together including the fundraiser,” Bowman said. “We’re coming together to fund this organization so that we can help the community and the veterans.”
Bowman mentioned that the event will also help cover expenses that the organization has throughout the year.
Shields went into some of Scott’s history and the organization.
“He was the first Afro-American Commander of the American Legion Department of Mississippi and he supported the Post in every way he could,” Shields said. “Tyner-Ford Post was the first post to have a parade to honor our veterans on Memorial Day.”
Williams mentioned that the organization also sponsors a little league baseball team and that they not only assist members but veterans as a whole.
The event is $85.00 for an individual $300.00 for 4-person before May 6, and $340.00 after May 6th.
Gaona mentioned that any veteran who walks through the door receives assistance from the post while Harper spoke on how the organization is a huge asset to the community because there are plenty of veterans who are unaware of how to receive assistance.
The organization is still looking for sponsors for the event and information can be found on the flyer:
