Gators ended their season on Thursday after a loss to Ridgeland

Ridgeland, Ms-The Vicksburg High School football team ended their season on Thursday night at Ridgeland in a 42-22 loss.

The Gators got on the board on their opening drive as Jaheim Smith caught a long pass from Jamikal Maxey. DeCorey Knight Jr. ran it in for the two-yard touchdown on the next play followed by a successful extra point by Abel Gonzalez.

The Titans came out running the football but VHS quickly regained possession of the ball after Stephen Anderson recovered a fumble. The Gators and Titans went back and forth early on in the game and the first quarter ended with VHS up 7-0.

After pounding their way down the field, Ridgeland ended up scoring on a run to tie the game at 7-7. It didn’t take long for VHS to respond as Knight caught a long touchdown from Maxey which put the score at 14-7 after Abel’s kick.

Before halftime, the Titans managed to grab two more touchdowns as they went up 21-14.

Coming out of halftime Ridgeland continued to press their ground game where DK Wallace ran it in for another touchdown to put the score 28-14. They would also score again late in the third quarter to go up 35-14.

By the start of the fourth quarter, Ridgeland sacked Maxey and recovered the ball on the 18-yard line. They walked it in for another score just a few plays later to go up 42-14.

DeCorey Knight Jr. caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Maxey with 5:22 remaining as the score sat at 42-22.

The Gators finished the season with an 0-10 record and they will now go into offseason training.
