Harvey scored 27 points to lead VHS over Lanier

Vicksburg, Ms-Vicksburg High School girls’ basketball team improved to 2-0 after defeating Lanier High School 56-38 on Thursday night.

Zion Harvey hit a couple of 3-pointers in the first half as Cynia Johnson and Jordan Grace played crucial roles at the free-throw line. By halftime, the Missy Gators were up 25-11.

Coming out of halftime, Harvey knocked down multiple shots along with Johnson as they entered the final quarter with a 41-22 lead. Grace and Harvey both hit late 3-pointers as the Missy Gators quickly put the game away.

Harvey led with 27 points and Johnson added 15 in the win. Jordan Grace scored 12 points.

VHS Boys:

The Gators took a 61-55 loss to Lanier. Freshman Jaquez Jones ended the night with 21 points and Javeion Perkins added 14 on the board. Sedret Maxwell scored 10 points and Brycen Jones contributed four points.

The Flashes are now 2-2 on the year and they will face Humphrey’s Academy on Tuesday under Head Coach Walter Hallberg.

The Missy Gators are 2-0 under Head Coach Troy Stewart and will travel to Northwest Rankin on Saturday. The VHS Boys will travel to Germantown on Saturday under the leadership of Head Coach Kelvin Carter.
