VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s girls’ soccer team made a repeat appearance in the North State Championship, marking another successful season under Head Coach Jeremy Lawrence. The Lady Vikes finished with an 18-6-1 record.

For his leadership, Lawrence has been named VDN’s Girls’ Soccer Head Coach of the Year.

“I think we just fell short of what we were hoping for, but we did better than last year, and I think it went really well,” Lawrence said. “There were games where we thought we could be competitive, but watching them bounce back—especially in the district and North State games—I’ve never seen them more prepared or play to their full potential.”

The Lady Vikes went on seven- and six-game winning streaks, securing their second consecutive district championship. One of the highlights of the season was Jordan Polk breaking the school record for goals scored in a single season, finishing with 28 goals and 14 assists.

“It’s awesome. I always give all the credit to them,” Lawrence said. “This was a goal she set for herself, and I’m proud she made it that far. She’s one of those players who pushes herself.”

WC dominated in district play and made a strong playoff run, winning 6-1 over South Panola and 6-0 over Neshoba Central before facing Saltillo in North State. Unlike last year’s shutout loss to Saltillo, the Lady Vikes led for most of the 2025 matchup but ultimately fell 3-2.

“It was absolutely fantastic,” Lawrence said. “I told them when I took over that we would begin competing for championships, and I’m glad they get to see the rewards for all their hard work.”

For the second consecutive year, Lawrence has earned VDN’s Coach of the Year honor.

“Coaching can sometimes be a thankless job, so these are the few things that help you feel good,” he said. “I want to thank my wife for being so gracious because a coach’s job is never done, and I also want to thank the Vicksburg Warren School District.”
