Lady Vikes pick up two wins in Brookhaven Tournament
BROOKHAVEN, Miss.(VDN) — The Warren Central High School softball team earned two victories in the Brookhaven Tournament, defeating Lawrence County and Pearl High School.
The Lady Vikes opened the day with a 10-2 win over Lawrence County.
Maddy Pant led Warren Central at the plate, finishing with two hits and four RBIs. The Lady Vikes recorded six hits in the victory.
KK Williamson added a hit and two RBIs, while MK Ferguson drove in one run. Laney Bennett also collected a hit. Mary Clell Allred hit a double, and Emily Muirhead recorded one RBI.
Pant also contributed in the circle, striking out two batters in the win.
In the second game, Warren Central secured a 3-2 victory over Pearl.
Pearl scored first in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Vikes responded in the third inning when Emily Muirhead hit a two-run triple to give Warren Central a 2-1 advantage.
Pearl later tied the game at 2-2 with a single, but Warren Central answered when Anzley Keen delivered an RBI single to regain the lead at 3-2. Pearl was unable to score again as the Lady Vikes held on for the win.
Laney Bennett led Warren Central with two hits in the game. Muirhead finished with a triple and two RBIs, while Mary Clell Allred, Keen and Pant each recorded a hit. Keen also drove in one run.
Pant struck out three batters as Warren Central improved to 6-4 under head coach Brian Ellis.
