Missy Gators won their fourth consecutive District Championship

Vicksburg High School girls’ track team won their fourth consecutive district championship on Thursday night. The Missy Gators finished with a total of 149 points and Warren Central came in second with 144.

“I feel great and we knew what we had to do to win,” VHS Head Coach Deatra Cable said.“I had some eight and ninth graders out here and we have a very young team but I’m super excited about it,” she added.

Jakayla Brooks, Amiya Hall, To’nia Taylor, and Shaniyah Walker helped the Missy Gators claim first place in the 4×200(1:43.98). McKenzie Edmond, Midori Allen, Walker, and Jakeyla Curry came in first place in the 4×400(4:18.53).

Jamiya Stewart threw 88.10 3/4 to finish first in discus and Kennedy Williams came in third. Edmond also took home the blue ribbon in the high jump while WC’s Karly Henderson came in second.

Rodrianna Hall took control over the long jump where she jumped 17 feet and 3 inches as well as the triple jump 34’10.50. Knox(34’7) and Nakia Jeffers(33’5) came in second and third place. Brooks came in second place in both the 100(12.34)and 200m(25.70) while Walker finished on top in the 400m(58.82).

For the Vicksburg boys, Tyler Henderson claimed first place in the triple jump(45-05.50) while Shaun Archer Jr. finished on top in the Discus(118’3). Koury Vample took home two first-place ribbons in the 300-meter hurdles(39.35) and the 100m(10.83).

VHS will be traveling to Olive Branch next week.
