Vicksburg High boys win third straight meet at Ridgeland Invitational
RIDGELAND, Miss.(VDN) — Vicksburg High School boys’ track team won its third meet of the season, placing first at the Ridgeland Invitational on Thursday. Led by Head Coach Paul Wilson Jr., VHS totaled 159 points to finish ahead of Starkville, Ridgeland, Canton, Warren Central, Forest, Natchez, Puckett and McLaurin high schools.
The Gators delivered a strong overall performance with multiple top finishes in both running and field events.
Jayden Woods led the way in the field by capturing first place in the shot put, while Shaun Archer added a third-place finish. Woods also dominated the discus, earning another first-place finish.
On the track, Reginald Nash placed second in the 100-meter dash. Dayquan Warfield took third place in the 200 meters.
In the 800-meter run, Jaylen Butler finished second. Casey Brown placed fifth in the 1,600 meters while setting an all-time school record at VHS.
Thomas McKnight earned a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Marquis Knight added a second-place finish in the triple jump.
Vicksburg also excelled in the relay events. The 4×100-meter relay team of Thomas McKnight, Dayquan Warfield, Quartaveon Thomas and Reginald Nash claimed first place.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Thomas McKnight, Jayden Stewart, Quartavious Thomas and Reginald Nash finished second.
In the 4×800-meter relay, Casey Brown, Jaiden Thomas, Caleb Winger and Jaylen Butler secured a second-place finish.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Casey Brown, Landon Prentiss, Kaleb Todman and Jaylen Butler also competed for the Gators, rounding out a successful meet by coming in second place.
The Vicksburg High School girls’ track team also turned in solid performances at the meet:
4×100-meter relay (3rd place): Tonia Taylor, McKenzy Edmond, Aniyah Kelly, Raylyn Parson
Zion Knox: 1st place long jump; 2nd place triple jump
Nakia Jeffers: 3rd place triple jump; 3rd place long jump
Aaniya Kelly: 4th place long jump
Amiyah Hall: 11.86 in the 100-meter dash (best time); recorded a personal-best time in the 200-meter dash
Allie Danyel Smith: 1st place in the 3200 meters; 1st place in the 1600 meters
