VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — An arrest has been made in connection with the early Sunday morning break-in at Waleed’s Food Mart, located at 3613 Wisconsin Ave. where an ATM was broken into, Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones said.

According to Jones, officers responded to a burglary call at approximately 8:09 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Upon arrival, they discovered both rear doors open and the ATM damaged. Several cartons of cigarettes, approximately $4,000 in cash, and other items had been stolen. The ATM had also been broken into, with an estimated $9,000 to $12,000 taken.

Evidence was collected at the scene, and following further investigation, including a search warrant, 31-year-old Debarrea Malone-Smith was arrested.

Malone-Smith has been charged with burglary and was arraigned Thursday, July 3, in Vicksburg Municipal Court before Judge Angela Carpenter. Bond was set at $50,000.

The Vicksburg Police Department continues to investigate.
