Vikings earned a second win over Ridgeland

Warren Central High School baseball team pulled off their second win this week against Ridgeland in a 10-5 victory on Saturday.

The Vikings popped things off first in the second inning after a hit by Trace Hood which was followed by a double from Cole Autrey that resulted in their first run. After Conner Watkins earned a hit in the third, Cade Fairley smashed a single that brought in a run along with Lester Martin’s sacrifice to put WC up 3-0.

The Titans got on the board for the first time in the fourth but the Vikings responded when Watkins hit a double to bring in a run while Martin hit another RBI as WC led 5-1.

Ridgeland began to hit the ball in the fifth and scored two more runs but singles from Maddox Lynch, Martin, and Fairley pushed the Vikings lead to 9-3 heading into the sixth.

The Titans scrambled up two more runs in the sixth before Brooks Willoughby entered the game to send the final batter of the inning back to the dugout. Autrey advanced WC’s lead after a single to put the score at 10-5.

Willoughby wrapped things up for WC in the seventh by not allowing any runs which gave the Vikings the victory.

Watkins(1 RBI) went 3 for 4 at the plate. Fairley(2 RBIs) went 2 for 2 while Talan Patel and Autrey(2 RBIs) both went 2 for 3. Hood and Martin (3 RBIs) each had one hit.

Lynch struck out seven batters and Willoughby struck out two.

WC(9-10) will travel to face Columbus on Monday.
