Vikings pulled off a close win to advance to the second round

The Warren Central High School boys’ soccer team achieved a thrilling victory over Lake Cormorant on Tuesday night, securing their spot in the second round with a score of 4-3.
“We played great offensively but defensively we made too many mistakes and when you get to this level it’s going to be the team who makes the least mistakes that will win,” WC Head Coach Greg Head said. “Overall we worked the ball well and they don’t quit at all and we come to play.”
The game kicked off with an impressive start, as Tyler Godshaw swiftly scored the first goal less than two minutes into the match, granting
the Vikings an early 1-0 lead. Lake Cormorant responded by netting a goal of their own, evening the score at 1-1.
As the first half was drawing to a close, sophomore Luke Bond joined the action and managed to give WC the lead with a well-executed goal, assisted by Laney Lewis.
After the halftime break, WC’s sophomore Jonah Atman extended the Vikings’ lead with a successful penalty kick early in the second half.
However, Lake Cormorant proved resilient and fought back, scoring two goals to level the score at 3-3.
With only three minutes remaining on the clock, Bond rose to the occasion once again, displaying his skill and determination by securing his second goal of the night, with Lewis providing yet another assist. This goal ultimately sealed the victory for Warren Central High School.
“I knew God was on my side and we have a great coach and he tells us to give it 110% every time so that’s what we came out and did,” Bond said.
