WC earned a big district win over VHS on Wednesday
Warren Central High School softball team made a crucial comeback to defeat Vicksburg 24-6 on Wednesday.
Maddy Pant hit an RBI to give WC the 1-0
lead at the start of the game. The Missy Gators responded with five runs of their own after singles from Harmony Harris, JaMia Grace, Camden McGloster and Amari Johnson along with a host of walks as they went up 5-1.
Tyra Bridges hit a double in the second for the Lady Vikes but VHS was able to not allow them to score. Johnson got VHS on the board again in the second after a single to put the Missy Gators ahead 6-1.
The Lady Vikes managed to tie the game at 6-6 after Jenn Smith and Bridges hit doubles while Makayla Jackson, Maddy Pant and Kamryn Morson hit singles.
Something clicked for the Lady Vikes in fourth which consisted of multiple hits, including Adalyn Anderson hitting her first home run(grand slam) while MK Ferguson and KeKe McKay both hit doubles.
“That was very exciting and I knew we needed more runs so I had a job to do,” Anderson said.
Makayla Jackson, Sarah Cameron Fancher and Maddy Pant all hit singles that helped add 13 more runs in the inning.
Ferguson and Bridges brought in runs from hits in the fifth while Pant smashed her second home run(3-run) of the year to put the score at 24-6.
Pant(8 RBIs) and Jackson(2 RBIs) both went 4 for 5 at the plate. Smith and Bridges both brought in three hits each and one RBI while McKay(3 RBIs), Morson(1 RBI), Ferguson(3 RBIs) and Anderson(4 RBIs) all had two hits. Fancher had one hit and four runs.
For VHS, Harris, Camden McGloster and Amari Johnson all had had two hits while Grace MaKynzie Dunmore had one.
