Vicksburg, Miss.-This time last year, the Lady Vikes were shut out 7-0 by Saltillo. 2025 looked a lot different. The Lady Vikes managed to go toe-to-toe with the defending state champions as their season ended with a 3-2 loss on Monday night.

“We came out and punched them hard, but in the end, we couldn’t keep up the tempo,” WC Head Coach Jeremy Lawrence said. “Can a coach ask for more,” he added “Watching them play on the field and seeing where they were a year ago and seeing where they are today was phenomenal.”

Warren Central started the game off hot as Jordan Polk put one through the net within the first minute. Brooke Steed would eventually give the Lady Vikes the 2-0 lead before Saltillo eventually got on the board before halftime.

The defense was everything in the intense game between the two as they went back and forth in the second half. The Lady Tigers tied the game at 2-2 from a penalty kick at the 21-minute mark. With 13 minutes left in the game, Saltillo managed to take the lead, which led them to be the North State Champions.

Although the home team came up short, 2025 marked the first time that WC(18-6-1) went to North State for two years in a row.

Lawrence will lose seven seniors this season, but plenty of talent remains on WC’s roster.
