VHS and St. Aloysius grabbed wins on Monday

Vicksburg, Miss.-St. Aloysius and Vicksburg High School both grabbed baseball wins on Monday.

St. Aloysius:

St. Aloysius picked up their first win of the season in a 14-1 victory over Pelahatchie. The Flashes got on the board first in the second inning after an RBI from Pierson Smith. St. Al added 10 runs in the third inning after a double from Carson Smith and singles from Clark Hobson and Keller Bradley along with a host of walks.

William Roberson hit a 2-run single in the third inning and the Flashes earned their last run from a walk. Keller threw a no-hitter and finished the game with nine strikeouts. He also had one hit and two RBIs.

Carson Smith hit two doubles and three RBIs while Hopson and Roberson(2 RBIs) both had one hit. Laken Bradley, Walt Andrews, Robert Lee, and Pierson Smith all hit one RBI.

The Junior High team won 7-6 as well. Evan Mallard hit a trip and Patrick Southerland smashed a double early in the game. 

Southerland finished with two hits and one RBI while Brandon Babb and Mallard(1 RBI) each had one hit. Mason Bourne and Max Hargrove each hit an RBI while Mason Greene and Andrew Hembree both struck out one batter.

St. Al will host East Rankin on Thursday.

VHS:

VHS managed to pull off a hectic 15-13 win against Raymond in their season opener.

Mincer Minor IV, Peyton Calvin, and Allan Allen all hit doubles in the first inning to put the Gators up 3-1. They added three more runs in the second as Calvin singled and hit an RBI. By the end of the third inning, the Gators were up 11-4 after a double from Calvin(2-run) and a single from Ashton Harris.

Xavier Williams hit a single and a double late in the game that brought in two runs for VHS and Calvin hit an RBI as well. 

The Rangers had a big sixth inning where they crept back into the game after getting six runs.

Calvin pitched for two innings where he allowed zero hits and struck out four batters. Allen struck out five batters and Kaleb Doss struck out one. 

Calvin went 3 for 4 with three RBIs while Minor went 2 for 4(1 RBI). Nick Carson, West(2 RBIs), Allen(1 RBI), Doss, Harris(1 RBI) and Thomas each had one hit.

VHS will travel to play North Pike on Thursday.

PCA:

Porter’s Chapel Academy took two losses to Port Gibson last night. Chad Fuson struck out 13 batters in game one. He also had a hit along with Ethan Gordan in the 4-3 loss.

In game two, PCA fell short 15-9. Fuson and Conley Johnston both hit three RBIs while Cameron Porter, Joèl Parker, Landon McCollough and Carson Hays each had a hit.
