WC picked up two wins on Friday

Warren Central High School softball team picked up two wins on Friday as they took down Florence and Richland.

“They all played well and refocused and got the job done,” Head Coach Brian Ellis said. “We were out two starters this week and our young athletes really stepped up today.”

Game 1 against Florence  9-1

Maddy Pant brought in the first two runs after a double. MK Ferguson picked an RBI just shortly before the end the the first to give WC a 3-0 lead. By the end of the third, WC increased their lead to 7-0 after Adalyn Anderson hit a three-run triple while Tyra Bridges sacrificed to bring in another run.

Florence got on the board in the first inning but Kennadi McKay hit a triple and Ferguson hit a single to give the Lady Vikes the 9-1 victory.

McKay went 3 for 3 with one RBI while Pant went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Anderson(3 RBIs), Ferguson(2 RBIs), Tyra Bridges(1 RBI), and Sarah Cameron Fancher all had one hit.

McKay struck out one batter.

Game 2 against Richland 13-3

Richland got on the board early as they went up 3-0. WC quickly responded once Jenn Smith hit a double that eventually led to a mood change in the game. Kamryn Morson, Ferguson, Bridges, and Makayla Jackson all hit singles in the first that eventually gave WC the lead while KK Williamson and Adalyn Anderson both hit doubles. The icing on the cake was when Fancher earned a hit in which she believed she was out but eventually snatch an inside-the-park homerun that gave the Lady Vikes a 9-3 lead.

Later on in the win, Ferguson, Pant Smith, and Morson all hit doubles while Williams and Bridges picked up RBIs to seal the 13-3 win.

Bridges, Morson, Ferguson, and Smith all had two hits while Pant, Anderson, and Williamson  all had two RBIs and one hit. Fancher and Jackson both had a hit as well.

Seventh-grader Williamson was on the rubber where she struck out six batters.

WC will travel to face Florence on Thursday.
