VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Vicksburg native Chris Stamps has been hired as the defensive backs coach at East Mississippi Community College. Stamps shared the news over the weekend on social media, marking the next chapter of his coaching career.

The move comes after Stamps spent the past year on the coaching staff at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He brings with him a strong and diverse résumé, having previously held coaching positions at East Central Community College, Mississippi Delta Community College, Mississippi State University and the University at Buffalo. Stamps has also coached at the professional level, spending time with the Orlando Guardians of the XFL.

Locally, Stamps is best remembered for his standout playing career at Warren Central High School under longtime head coach Josh Morgan. A versatile two-way player for the Vikings, Stamps finished his prep career with 13 interceptions, 902 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He was rated a three-star recruit by ESPN and signed with Mississippi State University out of high school.

After redshirting his freshman season at MSU, Stamps transferred to Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he enjoyed a productive 2017 campaign. In 11 games, he totaled 34 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception, helping the Rangers to an 8-3 record.

Stamps concluded his collegiate playing career at Middle Tennessee State University, recording 39 tackles and one interception before transitioning into coaching full time.
