Port Gibson opens season with 34-14 win over Raymond

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (VDN) —

Port Gibson High School opened its football season with a 34-14 win over Raymond on Friday night.

The Blue Waves improved to 1-0 under head coach Harry Brown behind a productive night from quarterback Ki’Montae Crutison and a defense that forced four turnovers.

Port Gibson struck with Lenelle Snyder scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run. Ocie Brown III followed with a successful 2-point conversion run.

Crutison connected with Nate Jones for a 20-yard touchdown pass, while the Blue Waves’ defense also found the end zone when D’Elljai Smith returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown.

Crutison continued his strong night through the air with a 65-yard touchdown pass to Nicholas Epps Jr. Snyder ran in the 2-point conversion following the score.

Jones later hauled in his second touchdown of the night on a 25-yard pass from Crutison.

Crutison completed 9 of 11 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 30 yards. Snyder finished with 65 rushing yards on nine carries and a touchdown, while Jones caught three passes for 55 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Port Gibson came away with three interceptions and forced one fumble. Smith, Cory Johnson and Braylin Carter each recorded an interception, with Smith returning his pick for a touchdown. Marcus Turner forced a fumble for the Blue Waves.

Port Gibson will travel to face Jim Hill on Thursday.
