Hot weekend ahead with spotty afternoon storms possible

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Expect a hot and muggy weekend in Vicksburg, with mostly sunny skies and only a few interruptions from pop-up showers and storms, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible before 9 p.m., tapering off to a slight chance of rain between 9 and 10 p.m. Skies will become partly cloudy overnight, with temperatures settling near 74 degrees. Winds will shift from the south at 5 to 10 mph to light out of the south-southeast.

Saturday will bring plenty of sunshine, with just a 20 percent chance of an afternoon thunderstorm after 3 p.m. The high will climb to around 95, and heat index values may peak near 106. Winds will be light from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Saturday night will be mostly clear, with just a 10 percent chance of lingering showers before 7 p.m. The low will dip to 74 under calm conditions.

Sunday will mirror Saturday, with mostly sunny skies and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. The high will again reach 95, with light southwest winds. Sunday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 74 and calm winds.

The hot streak will continue Monday, expect more heat and humidity with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. The high will be near 95 with light winds shifting to the west-southwest around 5 mph.
