Thunderstorms tonight, then sunshine and heat return by Sunday

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Thunderstorms are expected to move through the Vicksburg area early Friday evening, but the weekend will trend hotter and drier with sunshine and rising temperatures forecast through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 8 p.m. Friday, with skies gradually becoming partly cloudy overnight. The low will dip to around 75 degrees, with calm winds after sunset. Rainfall totals are expected to be light, though some areas could see higher amounts in heavier downpours.

Saturday brings a 50 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms, with partly sunny skies and a high near 90. Heat index values could reach as high as 105 degrees, and south-southwest winds will range from 5 to 10 mph. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 75 and calm conditions.

The forecast clears on Sunday with sunny skies and a high near 95. Winds will remain light out of the southwest. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 75, followed by more sunshine on Monday and a high near 96.
