VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A stretch of hot and stormy weather is expected to settle over the Vicksburg area this weekend, with scattered thunderstorms, sweltering heat index values, and multiple chances for afternoon and evening rain through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, residents can expect a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m. Skies will be partly cloudy, and temperatures will dip to around 74 degrees. Winds will shift from south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph to light and variable overnight.

Saturday brings more active weather. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected before 4 p.m., with a greater likelihood of storms between 4 and 5 p.m., followed by scattered activity into the evening. The high will reach near 90 degrees, with heat index values as high as 102. Southwest winds will blow at around 10 mph. The chance of rain is 60%.

Saturday night holds a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7 p.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 74 and calm winds.

Sunday will continue the unsettled trend. There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, followed by a likely chance of storms after 1 p.m. and continuing into the evening. The high will reach near 89 under partly sunny skies. Winds will shift from light south-southwest to 5 to 10 mph out of the southwest. Rain chance remains at 60%.

Sunday night, showers and thunderstorms are likely before 7 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a low near 74. The chance of rain stays at 60%.

Monday offers a slight break with a 40% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms after 10 a.m. Partly sunny skies are forecast, with a high near 88 and light southwest winds.
