It’s Official: Vicksburg’s Kevin Dent has been inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame
Vicksburg native Kevin Dent has been officially inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame. Dent is a part of the 2024 class who was inducted on Saturday in Canton, Ohio.
Dent played at the Safety position at Jackson State University where he was a three-year All-American and a two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Year. In his sophomore year, he tied for leading the nation with 10 interceptions. He had a total of 21 interceptions while playing for the Tigers from 1985-1988.
After his time at JSU, Dent signed a free-agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals but was released before the season began. He went on to play for the Birmingham Fire in the World Football League and the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League.
Dent is a 1985 graduate of Vicksburg High School and led the Gators to a 10-2 season in the 1984 season under head coach Jim Sizemore. He finished his high school career playing safety and quarterback where he had a 23-9 overall record.
