OXFORD, Miss. (VDN) — Local coaches Brandon Kincaid, Joshua Sterling, and Caleb Sterling were invited to serve as guest coaches at the prestigious Ole Miss Baseball Camp last week.

The camp, hosted by the University of Mississippi, featured top high school players from across the country, with instruction from current and former Ole Miss players, coaching staff, and several former Major League Baseball players.

Each day of the camp focused on a core baseball skill: hitting, fielding, base running, and bunting. Coaches not only taught drills but also participated alongside players and fellow instructors, learning new techniques and approaches.

Teams were formed Monday morning, and games began that afternoon—with no time for individual practices throughout the week. Coaches were tasked with evaluating talent, assigning roles, and building chemistry and strategy in real-time.

Team results:

  • Caleb and Joshua Sterling each led their teams to 4–3 records, with Caleb’s team defeating Joshua’s to qualify for the playoff bracket.
  • Coach Kincaid’s team went undefeated until the final game, finishing as the camp’s runner-up after the championship.

Coaches and players were granted full access to the Ole Miss baseball facilities, including the weight room and training center, indoor and outdoor hitting cages, pitching labs, bullpen areas, team meeting rooms, locker rooms, and a refueling station with protein and recovery supplements. Meals were provided in the game day feeding area, and games were played on Swayze Field, the home stadium of Ole Miss Baseball.

The experience extended beyond the diamond, as all three coaches stayed overnight on campus with their players, forming bonds and mentoring relationships with athletes from around the country.

One of the week’s highlights was watching the MLB Draft, Home Run Derby, and MLB All-Star Game each evening on the Jumbotron at Swayze Field, alongside current and former college and professional players.

Coaches described the experience as “incredible” and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. The week was filled with growth, competition, and national-level exposure. The knowledge gained, they said, will be brought back to their home programs to benefit local student-athletes.
