Nick Anderson wins the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award
Vicksburg native Nick Anderson has been named the Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Rookie. Anderson officially received the award on Thursday night during the CFL Award Ceremony.
“I made a promise to God that as long as he grants me the blessings, the lessons, and the opportunities, I would use each one to give him the glory and the praise because without him I truly wouldn’t be heard today so I want to give a shoutout to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Anderson said.
Anderson went on to thank his mother, Emmarie Flaggs, during his acceptance speech along with his entire family and supporters over the years as well as his hometown, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
After being cut by the New Orleans Saints, Anderson found a home with the Edmonton Elks. Earning a starting spot before the 2024 season, Anderson put his true talents to the test. He eventually dominated as he finished as the CFL’s lead tackler with 116 on the year. He also brought in three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception.
Anderson was also named to the All-CFL Team due to his excellent play this year as hie won this prestigious award.
“I would like to thank the Canadian Football League for allowing me to showcase my talents,” Anderson added.
Anderson is a graduate of Vicksburg High School. After playing on the varsity level, he went to star at Jones College and Tulane University where he helped each team to a winning season.
