Patchy fog, scattered thunderstorms and triple-digit heat ahead

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg residents can expect another steamy and stormy stretch this week, with triple-digit heat index values and increased chances of afternoon thunderstorms through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, there’s a slight 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m., followed by patchy fog in the early morning hours. Skies will be mostly clear with a low near 73. Winds will be calm, shifting to the southwest overnight.

Tuesday brings another round of heat and storms, with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 1 p.m. Skies will be mostly sunny, with highs near 93 and a heat index as high as 106. Winds will stay light, becoming west southwest around 5 mph by afternoon.

A slight chance of storms lingers into Tuesday night, mainly before 1 a.m. Skies will be partly cloudy with lows near 73. Rainfall amounts should remain light but could be higher in isolated thunderstorms.

Wednesday starts with patchy fog, then transitions to mostly sunny skies. A 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected in the afternoon, with highs near 91 and light west southwest winds. Some storms could produce heavier rainfall amounts exceeding a quarter of an inch.

Storms remain likely through early Wednesday evening, especially before 7 p.m. The night will be partly cloudy, with lows around 73 and a 60% chance of precipitation.

On Thursday, more storms are expected, particularly in the afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 91. Rain chances stand at 60%, with calm winds becoming west southwest around 5 mph.
