Patricia Fairchild Oglesby 1939-2026
Patricia Fairchild Oglesby, a beloved mother and grandmother from Vicksburg, passed away at 87. Known for her creativity and devotion to family, she inspired many through her service and adventures. A graveside service is scheduled for September 25, 2026.

Patricia Fairchild Oglesby lived a life filled with creativity, adventure, service, and an enduring love for her family. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she passed away on September 21, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving behind cherished memories and a love of discovery that will continue through the generations she helped shape.
Born on July 4, 1939, to Hilton Reece Fairchild and Esma Colum Fairchild, Patricia graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in home economics and was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was a beloved schoolteacher before becoming a homemaker, bringing her care and creativity into the home she built with her family.
On December 21, 1958, Patricia married Bobby F. Oglesby. Their marriage spanned 64 years, until his passing on January 13, 2023. Together, they raised three children, shared incredible adventures, and remained steadfastly devoted to one another through the changes and challenges of a lifetime. Their story was one of enduring companionship and always being there for each other.
Throughout her life, Patricia cared for the people she loved. She was a devoted caregiver first to her daughter Robin, then to her parents, and later to Bobby. Her family knew her love through that steady presence and the care she gave them day after day. Caring for others was central to who she was.
Patricia had an artist’s spirit and a gift for creating. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and a wide variety of crafts, filling the back room of their home with the things she made and loved. She was an exceptional seamstress, and her daughter Amy especially remembers the clothes and gowns her mother made for her. Her creativity was a familiar and treasured part of family life.
During retirement, Patricia and Bobby explored the country in their camper, visiting 48 states. Among their family’s most cherished memories are the trips they took with their grandsons, Brent and Reece, traveling from Mississippi all the way to Alaska. Those journeys gave the boys more than the chance to see new places. They gave them time with their grandparents, a sense of possibility, and a love of travel and adventure that both carry with them today.
Patricia’s dedication to her family also inspired a lifelong commitment to Special Olympics, in which her daughter Robin participated as an athlete. She was deeply involved in the organization throughout her life. She also served her community as a longtime member and treasurer of the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers, Warren County Association, and as president of the Careers Club.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby F. Oglesby; her daughter, Robin Oglesby; her brother, Hilton McKay Fairchild; her sister-in-law, Eva Nell Milton; her brother-in-law, Howell Leon Oglesby; and her nephews, Douglas Wayne “Doug” McCoy and Keith Leon Oglesby.
She is survived by her son, Norman Oglesby (Gayle McWilliams); her daughter, Amy Oglesby (Bryan Carter); her grandsons, Brent Jones (Stephanie Jones) and Reece Jones; and her sister-in-law, Hilda Rae McCoy Priest.
Her family will remember her in the paintings she left behind, the adventures they shared, and the example of love and devotion she and Bobby gave them. Her influence lives on whenever they set out to see somewhere new, create something with their own hands, or simply show up for the people they love. A graveside service will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10:30 A. M. at Providence Cemetery in Roxie, Mississippi.
