VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The St. Aloysius Junior High football team earned a hard-fought 12-8 victory over Central Hinds Academy on Thursday night in a defensive battle.

Both teams struggled to find offense in the first half, which remained scoreless thanks to key defensive plays. Michael Moore came up with an interception to halt a Cougar drive, and Noah Ponder blocked a punt and recovered the ball to keep momentum on the Flashes’ side.

St. Aloysius finally broke through in the second half when quarterback Reeves Sadler connected with Moore on a long pass that set up Moore’s 4-yard touchdown run, giving the Flashes a 6-0 lead. Central Hinds answered quickly with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to move ahead 8-6.

The Flashes’ defense delivered again as Charlie McSherry made a stop in the backfield, and Ponder intercepted a pass to shift momentum. St. Aloysius capitalized when Davis Burroughs powered into the end zone on a run, sealing the 12-8 win.
