Storms likely this afternoon as heat index tops 105; more rain possible through Monday
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A hot and stormy afternoon is on tap for Vicksburg, with more scattered showers and thunder storms possible through the weekend and into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely after 4 p.m. today, with a high near 92 and a heat index as high as 105. North-northwest winds around 5 mph will offer little relief. Rainfall totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are expected, though some storms may produce higher amounts.
Tonight, the chance of rain drops to 30 percent, mainly before 9 p.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a low near 73 and light winds becoming calm.
Saturday brings a 40 percent chance of afternoon storms under mostly sunny skies, with a high near 90 and heat index values up to 102. Winds will be light from the north. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of early evening showers and a low around 69.
Sunday looks dry and sunny, with a high near 92 and calm north winds. Clear skies continue Sunday night, with lows around 70.
On Monday, another round of scattered afternoon storms is possible, with a 30 percent chance of rain and a high near 92.
