Vicksburg girls win Meridian Barbara Brown Invitational; boys finish second
MERIDIAN, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg High School girls track and field team captured first place at the Meridian Barbara Brown Invitational on Monday, finishing with 168.5 points. The Missy Gators recorded nine first-place finishes in a dominant showing.
The Vicksburg boys team placed second overall with 140.5 points.
Amiyah Hall led the way for the Missy Gators with two victories, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.10 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 25.42. McKenzie Edmond claimed first place in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches) and finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Zion Knox took first place in the long jump (17-8) and finished second in the high jump (4-10). Raylyn Parson won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.94, while Allie Danyel Smith captured first place in the 1600 meters (6:20.74) and finished second in the 3200 meters (14:38.10).
Jamiya Stewart placed first in discus (77-10) and fourth in shot put, while Alaina Williams won the shot put with a throw of 31-6.
Other top finishers for the Missy Gators included Xhiareia Darensburg, who placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (49.37) and third in the 100-meter hurdles; Aaniyah Kelly, who finished second in the long jump (16-5) and fourth in the 400 meters; and Jazmyn Ellis, who placed fourth in discus.
Vicksburg’s relay teams also performed well, finishing first in the 4×400-meter relay (4:24.30) and second in the 4×200-meter relay (1:47.76).
On the boys side, Jayden Stewart claimed first place in the high jump (5-8), and Teejay McKinney won the pole vault (8-0) while also finishing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Additional performances included Fa’darrius Davis, who placed second in the pole vault (7-6); Marquis Knight, who finished second in the triple jump (44-3); and Quartaveon Thomas, who placed fourth in the triple jump.
The Gators’ relay teams each earned second-place finishes in the 4×800, 4×400 and 4×200 events.
