Vicksburg native Ben Shelton named Offensive Coordinator at Clinton High School

CLINTON, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg native Ben Shelton has been named the new offensive coordinator at Clinton High School. Shelton will take over the role for the 2025 season, replacing Tyler Peterson, who resigned to accept a position at Starkville High School.
Shelton joins the Arrows following a successful stint at Madison Central High School, where he was part of the coaching staff that helped the Jaguars win a state championship in 2021.
A 2004 graduate of Vicksburg High School, Shelton was a standout wide receiver under head coach Alonzo Stevens. The Gators reached the playoffs in each of Shelton’s varsity seasons. One of his most memorable performances came in a 2003 victory against Brookhaven, where he recorded 194 receiving yards in a 55-47 win. During his junior year in 2002, Shelton tallied 41 receptions and finished his high school career with 79 receptions — a Warren County record at the time.
Following high school, Shelton played at Hinds Community College before transferring to Mississippi State University. After his playing career, he returned to Vicksburg as a coach, where he mentored several players who would eventually break his own receiving records.
In Shelton’s first season as wide receivers coach at VHS, the Gators totaled 2,355 receiving yards. The following year, they surpassed that mark with 3,246 yards. He also had coaching stops at Ridgeland, Clinton (2013–15), and Madison Central.
With years of experience and proven results, Shelton is expected to bring energy and expertise to Clinton’s offensive unit.
The Arrows are led by Head Coach Hamer Morgan.
