Warren Central High School’s Greg Head has been selected as VDN’s Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year.

Following a challenging 3-12 record in 2023, Head guided the Vikings to a remarkable 17-5-1 season in 2024, remaining undefeated in district play.

“We exceeded expectations, and while we anticipated improvement, the level of success we achieved was truly surprising,” Head said. “We were projected to finish third in the district, but we defied the odds and clinched the title.”

The collective efforts of hard work and cohesive team dynamics propelled WC to significant victories against tough opponents like Neshoba Central, Ridgeland, and Lake Cormorant,
resulting in an impressive 12 shutout wins.

“Our teamwork was exceptional, and the team’s maturity played a crucial role. I consistently emphasized the importance of giving 110% effort,” Head emphasized.

Under Coach Head’s guidance, WC surpassed .500 in 2024 and reached North State for the first time since 1993.

Concluding his 18th season at WC on a high note, Coach Head’s exceptional leadership and the team’s success made his selection for this award well-deserved.

“While it’s an honor to receive recognition, this accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the
players and assistant coaches,” Head humbly acknowledged.
