Davis and Calvin Named Captains of the Gator Girls
VICKSBURG, MS. – Anitra Calvin and Kaitlyn Davis have been selected as the Captains of the Vicksburg High School Gator Girls Dance Team. Both Calvin and Davis are senior members of the team under the leadership of Jamie Cruthirds-Wells.
Calvin:
Calvin is in her fourth year of dancing. Her talents have led her to be positioned in a leadership role. She served as Co-Captain last year and she also was in the same role in junior high school.
Before the official season began, Calvin learned that she would be captain of her team.
“I was excited and overwhelmed when I found out because I knew the pressure of the position,” Calvin said.
Anitra was introduced to dance at a young age as she first began with praise dancing. She eventually went on to junior high where she became a Gatorette in preparation to become a Gator Girl in high school.
Now that Calvin is in her final year, she has goals set out for the Gator Girls as football season is already here.
“I just want to keep the energy up and progress over time and continue to get better,” she said.
Anitra plans to go to college after high school and pursue a career as a physician assistant.
Davis:
At the age of six, Davis began dancing at the Debra Franco School of Dance. She eventually became Gatorette in junior high school where she served as Captain alongside Calvin.
Davis is a second-generation Gator Girl as her mom also served as captain in her high school years.
Kaitlyn was named Co-Captain earlier this year, and has been a dream come true.
“I was very excited when I found out because I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a Gatorette,” Kaitlyn said. “I want us to have a lot of opportunities and upgrade every year.”
For the past two years, Davis has won the Most Dedicated Award.
“I’m very dedicated to my team and I try to always do what needs to be done as long as it’s not hurting me,” she said.
Kaitlyn plans to dance in college after graduation and major in nursing.
