Gators came away with a 52-35 district win over Warren Central

Vicksburg, Mississippi-After falling short to Warren Central a couple of weeks ago, Vicksburg High School found their groove as they defeated the Vikings 52-35 on Tuesday night.
“We started off 0-4 in the district so this win feels good, especially against our crosstown rivals,” senior Mincer Minor IV said. “We wanted to get back into the winning column so that helped us stay motivated to finish out with a win.”
The Gators found success in sharing the ball on Tuesday where Minor led the team with 10 points.
WC’s Micah Moore popped things off with a long jump shot but Jaquez Jones responded with a nice 3-pointer for VHS. By the end of the first quarter, the Gators had a 10-9 lead. Nash Morgan, Jaylon Winters, and Robert Williams played a key role for WC in the second quarter but Minor, Jones, Kris Washington, and Jaquez Marshall kept VHS afloat along with Brycen Jones who knocked down a couple of free throws. By halftime, VHS was up 27-22.

The Gators’ defense stepped up in the third quarter as they only allowed WC to score two points in the quarter while Javeion Perkins, Jadarius Henderson, and DeCorey Knight Jr. all came away with successful shots.
With a 40-24 lead to start the fourth quarter, VHS never let their lead slip away as they earned their first district win of the season. Jones and Washington both scored nine points each while Perkins, Washington, and Henderson all scored six points.

Winters led WC with nine points and Morgan added eight. Moore and Williams both had six points.
WC will travel to Neshoba Central on Friday and VHS will travel to Callaway.
