Lightning halts St. Aloysius’ opener as Lady Flashes lead Manchester 6-2 in third inning
YAZOO CITY, Miss.(VDN)—A lightning delay ended St. Aloysius’ softball season opener on Friday as the Lady Flashes were leading Manchester Academy 6-2 in the third inning.
Madison Spencer recorded the team’s first hit of the season with a single in the opening frame, but Manchester’s Walton answered with a solo home run to give the Lady Mavericks a 1-0 lead.
St. Al responded in the second inning. Kennadi Blassingame reached on a bunt and Mallory Spencer followed with an RBI single to tie the game. Blassingame later stole home to give the Lady Flashes a 2-1 lead. After a hit by Lynlee McMillin, RBIs from Megan Theriot and Madelyn Kavanaugh pushed the lead to 4-1.
Manchester added a run off an error in the bottom half of the inning to close the gap to 4-2.
In the third, Blassingame, Mallory Spencer, and Analeigh Herring all singled to load the bases. Theriot then ripped a two-run double, scoring Mageigh Haller and Blassingame to extend the lead to 6-2.
Blassingame and Mallory Spencer (1 RBI) both went 2-for-2 at the plate. McMillin, Herring, Madison Spencer, Kavanaugh (1 RBI), and Theriot also had one hit each.
Freshman Mallory Spencer made her debut as the Lady Flashes’ starting pitcher, recording three strikeouts.
No official word has been given on when the game will be resumed. St. Aloysius is scheduled to travel to Tallulah Academy on Monday.
