Rain chances build this week, but Lyrid meteor shower may shine through breaks in the clouds

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Showers and thunderstorms are expected through midweek for Vicksburg and Warren County, though occasional breaks in cloud cover may offer glimpses of the Lyrid meteor shower, which is set to peak this evening, during the overnight hours.
Tonight brings a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms under mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 65 and calm winds. Despite the cloud cover, late-night skywatchers may still catch brief views of the Lyrid meteor shower, which peaks tonight. During the peak, viewers can expect to see as many as ten to twenty meteors per hour.
On Tuesday, rain chances increase throughout the day, with a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially after 1 p.m. The high will be near 82, with light winds shifting southwest at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Rainfall is expected to remain light, except in areas affected by thunderstorms.
Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with a slight 20 percent chance of lingering showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. The low will remain around 65 with calm conditions.
On Wednesday, similar conditions are expected with a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms developing into the afternoon. The high will reach near 81, with light south winds increasing to 5 to 10 mph. Rain totals could reach a quarter of an inch or more in storms.
Wednesday night will remain mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and storms continuing through the early morning hours. The low will be around 65, with light southeast winds becoming calm overnight.
