VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Adria Burrell, a standout track athlete from Warren Central High School, has officially committed to the University of West Alabama. She made the announcement Thursday morning on social media.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to God,” Burrell said. “Without His divine intervention, my entire career would not have been possible. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities and success that He has bestowed upon me.

“I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my parents for their unwavering support, time, energy and financial investment in my journey. Their love and encouragement have been instrumental in my success.

“I am also grateful to each and every coach who participated in my recruitment process. Their dedication and expertise have been invaluable. Coach Maxey, thank you for being my first track coach and for nurturing my athletic potential. To my trainers, Coach T and Coach Fields, and the WC coaches, I want to express my deepest gratitude for never giving up on me. Your unwavering commitment to my career has never gone unnoticed.

“I am particularly grateful to Coach Martin and Coach Cole for offering me a scholarship. Their generosity and belief in my abilities have given me the chance to pursue my dreams at the Division I level.

“With all that being said, I am beyond blessed and proud to announce that I have committed to the University of West Alabama.”

As a junior last season, Burrell became Warren Central’s first state track champion in six years. Last week, she finished first in both the 100-meter and 400-meter dash at the North State meet.

She will compete for another state championship this weekend.
